Midwest Instrument is a manufacturing company specializing in paddle wheel water flow meters utilized in irrigation, aquaculture and other applications where a simple water flow meter is required. These flow meters utilize a paddle wheel design that measures flow in pipes ranging in size from 1/2" up to 8". The meters are offered in two different versions. Both versions utilize the same paddle wheel system.
RD Series Paddle Wheel Flow Meters
Detached Display Paddle Wheel Flow Meter Head
This version of the meter has the paddle wheel sensor and display separated by up to 15'. Many times pipes are suspend or below the surface and not easily accessible. This version allows the display to be mounted in a location that is easily viewed while the sensor is not accessible for viewing.
Pipe Mounted Flow Meter -side and front view
This version, which is the original and most popular version, has the LCD display mounted to the sensor which is attached directly to the pipe. In many applications this is acceptable and works satisfactorily. This is also the lesser expensive of the meters with the digital display.
Assortment of Adapters for Flow Meters
Adapters mount the flow meters to pipes of various sizes and schedules. Specific to each pipe size and schedule, an adapter for a 3" schedule 40 pipe will not work on a 3" schedule 80 pipe. The user can program the Pipe Mounted Meters (PT series) or the Detached Display Flow Meters(RD series) for any of these various sized adapters. The adapters are added as an option when ordering the meter heads. Or additional adapters can be purchased separately. The same meter head can be field programmed and installed in any of the adapters. Detailed description of the various adapters can be found here.
